What Malaysia requires
- Import permit for the fruits on Malaysia's permit list. The list includes fresh mango, citrus such as lime, banana, durian, and products of the palm family, which includes coconut. The importer applies for the permit before the goods are shipped: through MAQIS in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan, and through the state Department of Agriculture in Sabah and Sarawak. Please apply well ahead, about a month before arrival. The permit states the conditions for the fruit, and its number is written on the phytosanitary certificate.
- Other fruits, such as dragon fruit and guava, are not named on the permit list. We confirm with you before the first shipment whether the current rules ask for a permit for your fruit and your port of entry.
- Phytosanitary certificate for each lot, issued by Vietnam's plant protection authority, with any additional declarations stated on the import permit.
- Registered growing areas and packhouses: where such a condition applies, it is stated on the import permit. If your permit asks for a growing area or packhouse code, please tell us, and we confirm it before the first shipment.
- Pesticide residues must stay within the limits in the Sixteenth Schedule of Malaysia's Food Regulations 1985. Where Malaysia sets no limit, the Codex Alimentarius limit is recognised; where neither sets one, a limit of 0.01 mg/kg applies. Residue test reports are available on request.
- Inspection and sampling: food consignments can be checked and sampled at the point of entry, and a lot can be held while results are pending.
- Labels: under the FAMA grading, packaging and labelling rules, each carton shows, in Bahasa Malaysia, the name and address of the importer or exporter, the name of the fruit, the grade, the size, the country of origin and the weight. The label or sticker is applied before the goods enter Malaysia. Carton text is agreed in the sales contract.
- Certificate of Origin ATIGA Form D, which can be sent electronically through the ASEAN Single Window, so that the ASEAN preferential tariff can be claimed. Please confirm import duty and taxes with your customs broker.
- Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading are sent in advance as scans.
